[digital-photography] File - FAQ (Monthly Reminders)

Hi!

Thank you for being a member of the Digital Photography Discussion at Yahoo! Groups. This is a monthly reminder that covers some of our Frequently Asked Questions about the list itself. You will receive this note automatically, once a month, from Yahoo! Groups.

Please read this note and follow its policies. It covers the basics of the operations of the group itself.

PRACTICE TOLERANCE - Please remember this is a world-wide group, with differences in experience, culture and language. Think before you hit "send".

"PLEASE VOTE FOR ME" - Please don't spam the list with requests to vote for your photo in any contests. It's spam.

"WHAT CAMERA SHOULD I BUY?" - This is the first question many people ask of the list. It is virtually impossible to answer without some qualifications: what do you want to shoot? what is your budget? what is your experience level? There are other sites (particularly www.dpreview.com) which are probably better suited to getting started with a camera purchase.

"NIKON IS BETTER THAN CANON" - Religious wars happen in all hobbies (Ford vs. Chevy, Democrat vs. Republican, Canned vs. Bottled.) If you have an opinion on a specific question, please join in. If you're just going to point someone to "your brand", please don't bother, it's not helpful.

"I SWITCHED TO MAC FROM PC" - This is a variation of the Canon vs Nikon war, mentioned above. Specific questions about Macs or PCs are easily answered, comparisons between the two are just going to start fights.

"YOU CAN'T STEAL THIS PHOTO" - Yes, we can. Please stop demonstrating all the "guaranteed" ways to stop people from downloading photos from the web. If it's visible in a browser, it's on their hard drive. Trust me.

EXPECT ALL EXPERIENCE LEVELS - Please remember there are all levels of photographers on this list. In fact, I founded it because I didn't know what I was doing, and wanted a place to go for help. Don't be afraid to ask what may seem to be simple questions, and please don't be intimidated by the "pro-level" conversations that pop up from time to time. If you have a question, chances are someone else has the same one, as well.

POSTS ARE MODERATED - All new users messages are moderated until the group moderators are convinced they will not spam the list. This means your messages may not immediately appear on the list. PLEASE DO NOT RESEND! The moderators will review and release your messages as quickly as they can.

STAY ON TOPIC - Please stay on topic - anything about digital photography is fine. If you have complaints about other list members or comments about the list itself, please take them up with me directly, at digital-photography-owner@yahoogroups.com rather than cluttering the list.

TRIM REPLIES - Please trim your replies - it's a good idea to quote someone you're answering to give context, but please don't just resend the entire note to the list.

NO SELLING OR SPAM - Please don't sell anything on the list. If you have actually used a product, most members will find your comments or product review very helpful. If you sell a product and simply post your marketing materials, those same people will consider it spam, and tend to be very vocal about it. Yahoo! Groups has a pretty stringent policy against spam. I usually let them handle complaints first. If you want to complain, forward the email to abuse@yahoogroups.com and please copy me (digital-photography-owner@yahoogroups.com) on your message.

NO ATTACHMENTS - Please don't send attachments with your notes. The list is designed to throw away all attachments. Embedded photos are attachments. This is the one policy that gets debated on a regular basis, but as long as we have members paying per-minute charges for Internet access, the policy will remain in effect. There is space available at the list's page on Yahoo for photos to share, and free web space is very easy to obtain these days. Please send URLs, not photos.

NO AUTO-RESPONDERS - Please don't let your auto-responders reply to the list. While your business contacts are interested that you are out of the office, hundreds of people on mailing lists aren't!

MY MAIL STOPPED - If you suddenly stop getting mail from the list, Yahoo! Groups has probably decided your email address is having problems. Every list has a "bounce list" associated with it - addresses that are not properly receiving mail. Please drop me a note off-list, and I can restore your id. If your email address goes away (you change Internet providers, for example), I will remove the address. You should always try to keep your email address updated in Yahoo! Groups.

FILE SHARING - Here are some ways to share your photos with the group:
-- Create a folder in the list's photos area and place your photos there. This area is cleaned periodically by the moderators, do NOT use it for permanent storage.
-- Create yourself a folder in the list's files area at groups.yahoo.com and place your photos there. This area will be cleaned periodically by the moderators, do NOT use it for permanent storage.
-- There are any number of organizations that offer free web space. Create a site and place your photos there. Flickr and PBase are sites used by other members, there are many others.
-- If you have a site, please join the Digital Photography webring at http://h.webring.com/hub?ring=digiphoto
-- Offer to email your photos to other members, and if anyone requests, email them off-list.

USING THE LIST'S FILES OR PHOTOS AREAS - These are shared spaces, the photos area is larger. They are purged by the moderators as necessary WITHOUT WARNING. Don't store anything there you need later! Every Yahoo member has a photo area, anyone can get a free website somewhere, please consider using those areas instead.

If you need any other help, please drop me a line off-list. I truly appreciate the time and effort all of the list members put into this list and its discussions.

Thanks,
Kevin Gilhooly

{Desi_Pardesi} Daily Positive Thoughts 13-08-17 Tolerance

Tolerance Tolerance means to bounce back even when thrown against a very hard wall. The ability to do this comes from sensing that life is a game and that all things move in cycles. What is uncomfortable now will soon change. Tolerance is like saying yes to the game and enjoying it. God's Help At Every Step (Part 2) Everyone expects and wants help from God in times of sorrow. But do we ever ask ourselves how much do we remember Him and never ever leave His hand during the entire day while performing actions?  This is because the more we remember Him with a clean heart and with honesty and also with strong belief; the more He will be available to us in times of problems. Also, He will be available when things don't go well for us.  They say that God is remembered a lot in negative times and in happiness He is forgotten. But if God is never forgotten, even when things are going well, then He will respond to our request for help when w
